Proton beam therapy

We’re by your side as you face cancer. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to make the decision that’s best for you.

For some cancers, proton therapy is the best choice:

  • Precision beam targets the tumor and saves healthy tissue.
  • Helpful in reducing side effects and may reduce future cancers.
  • Best used to treat tumors near sensitive organs.
Side effects A problem that occurs when treatment affects healthy tissues or organs. Some side effects of cancer treatment are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, pain, decreased blood cell counts, hair loss and mouth sores.

Accommodations

Seattle welcomes patients and their families to our city during proton treatment. Center patients are welcomed at the South Lake Union House (formerly SCCA House), offering 80 affordable apartment-style units specifically designed for patients. Patient suites, patient/caregiver suites and family suites that sleep up to five are available.

Seattle has hundreds of hotels to choose from but we have relationships with a number of properties close to the proton therapy facility, and some with flexible rates for longer-term stays. For more information, please contact our patient navigator/concierge team at (206) 306-2028 or by email at concierge.proton@fredhutch.org.
