Sarah Bedtelyon decided to work in healthcare because of her love of biology, microbiology, genetics and building relationships with patients and families.
"There is a unique variety to cancer patients. Cancer does not discriminate. We often follow patients/families for years also, so it's nice to be able to see patients through good and bad times."
Sarah received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Creighton University and her master's degree in adult/geriatric acute care nursing from Oregon Health and Science University. She plans to go back to school for her doctoral degree.
"I have great hope in genetic research, gene therapies and cancer prevention," she says. "I think that within my lifetime we will be able to prevent most cancers from occurring and treat the ones we cannot stop with better (less side effect-inducing) medications."
Outside of the clinic, Sarah loves to ride her bicycle.
"It's dangerous in such a big, crowded city but since my knee does not hold up well to running any more, it is the best stress relief I've found. Always wear a helmet -- it's saved my life!"
Sarah can also speak some Darijian Arabic from her time participating in the Peace Corps in Morocco. "Kulshi bhxir, humdula!"
