“Being able to accompany patients while they fight cancer and being able to help them achieve their goals in life — while sharing in the happiness and sadness of their experience — are the reasons I do this work.”
— Dr. Iravani
Why should a patient trust Fred Hutch for care?

Fred Hutch is a collaborative, academic setting where we are able to take preclinical research and apply it in a clinic setting, so patients are really getting the latest evidence-based treatment for their disease.

How would you describe your approach to care?

I think patients are looking for understanding of the difficulty of what they’re going through, especially in the case of more rare conditions when it has been challenging to find a specialist. I want patients to feel comfortable and know that they are being heard and that what they value is also important to me, so they are actively involved in planning their care.

Provider background

Specialty: Radiology

Theranostics

I am a radiologist who sees patients at Lake Union Clinic.

Theranostics uses a combination of therapeutic and diagnostic radioactive medications to precisely treat cancer.

We can understand the characteristics of the disease using molecular imaging which allows us to select the most appropriate treatment at the right time and dose for the patients. We use molecular imaging to monitor the response to treatment and identify the factors medicating the therapeutic success or resistance. Our therapies are highly targeted to the cancer tissues utilizing the biological molecules specific to tumors, thereby sparing the normal tissues from toxicity.

Imaging In medicine, a process that makes pictures of areas inside the body. Imaging uses methods such as X-rays (high-energy radiation), ultrasound (high-energy sound waves) and radio waves. Radiologist A physician who has special training in creating and interpreting pictures of areas inside the body. The pictures are made with X-rays, sound waves or other types of energy.

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch doctors. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your doctor can decide if a study is right for you.

Publications

Many of our Fred Hutch doctors conduct ongoing research to improve standards of patient care. Their work is evaluated by other doctors and selected for publication to the United States National Library of Medicine, the largest medical library in the world.
