Dr. Greta Bernier is a surgical oncologist who specializes in colon and rectal surgery.
I am thrilled to be a member of the exceptional team at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I especially enjoy working with our multidisciplinary teams to cater each treatment plan to our individual patients. It is so important to put our patients in the center of their care, so they can be educated about their disease and take an active role. Every day and with every patient, I try to embody our “Better Together” philosophy and work with patients and team members to beat cancer.

Greta Bernier, MD, decided at a young age that she wanted to work in the health care field after seeing her own parents work in hospitals. "I was fascinated by the human body and almost left my dream of medicine to become a teacher, until I learned that teaching is one of the most important parts of being a physician," she says. "We teach each other, our patients, our students, every member of our team so we can all give the best care possible."
Dr. Bernier decided to care for cancer patients specifically because she wanted to help and support patients who were in the hardest and most vulnerable time of their lives. "I wanted to be a part of the team to not only cure our patients of their cancers but also strive to find the cure when one is not in sight."
After receiving her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine, Dr. Bernier did her residency in general surgery from the UW Department of Surgery where she conducted research in germline genetic mutations leading to cancer. Following her residency, she did a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of South Florida.
Dr. Bernier hopes to see further individualization of the treatment algorithm for colorectal cancers.
Outside of work, Dr. Bernier enjoys camping, skiing, doing anything on the water, spending time with family and friends and supporting our local sports teams.
