We understand that as patients at SCCA, you may have some questions about COVID-19. We’ve answered some frequently asked questions in this document.

Undergoing cancer treatment can be challenging under the best of circumstances. For people living with cancer, the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced additional challenges and concerns, including worry about COVID-19 exposure, possible changes to or delays in anticipated treatment, and other stressors.

Caregiver

Being a caregiver is one of the most important—and loving—things you can do for someone. This document offers advice for those taking care of someone undergoing cancer treatment.

Bacteria, mold and other organisms commonly found in food are of particular concern to people undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. These treatments put you at increased risk for infection. By following safe food practices, patients and caregivers can reduce the risk of foodborne illness.

These guidelines are for patients with decreased immune function, such as those with low white blood cell counts (absolute neutrophil count less than 1,000 mm3).
Central line

A central venous catheter, also called a central line, is used to administer medication or fluids for a long period of time, often several weeks or more. This document covers the basic care and maintenance of the catheter as well as troubleshooting various problems that might arise.
