The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Administrative Fellowship Program offers early careerists an opportunity to develop their leadership style and to use their skills and competencies at one of the top 10 cancer programs in the nation, and the top ranked cancer hospital in the WWAMIO region. The fellow will be placed in Service Line Management, the strategy and business development arm of the institution, providing the fellow exposure across the care continuum and experience with executive and clinical leadership. Project-based in nature, the fellowship enables the fellow and the designated preceptor to determine the appropriate project portfolio through a concentration option that ensures a learning environment and the ability to translate academic theory into practice. The program is one year in length and aims to identify and grow promising candidates for future leadership positions.

The fellowship offers a rotation-based experience with projects geared towards the fellow’s interests and needs of the enterprise. This structure aims to provide a well-rounded understanding of the organization and disease-specific programs. Service line exposure may include Blood and Marrow Transplant, Breast, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Head and Neck, Immunotherapy, Hematology/Hematology Malignancies, Melanoma/Skin, Phase I, Renal, Sarcoma and Thoracic Programs.
As the Service Line Manager role spans organizations and departments, the fellowship offers an opportunity to work on initiatives cross-institutional and cross-departmental in nature.
The fellow is exposed to different managerial and leadership styles, helping to promote development and understanding of his or her own personal style.
The fellow directly reports to Michelle Ahrens, Associate Director of Service Line Management, who serves as the fellow’s supervisor and provides professional guidance, mentoring and support during the fellowship program.
Salary and benefits
The fellowship is a full-time salaried position that begins in July, with flexibility for exact start date. Compensation and benefits are competitive and include extending benefits to dependents. Vacation and sick leave accrue as a full-time employee.
Applicants must have received or be expected to receive an MHA, MPH, MBA or similar master’s degree in a related field of study from an accredited graduate program prior to expected start date.
Skills and qualifications
Desired skills and qualifications include: health care experience (preferably within a health care system); strong academic record; strong communication skills (both oral and written); ability to work on multiple projects at once; ability to be flexible, intuitive and inventive; self-motivated and team oriented; conducts self in a professional manner; and a keen desire to learn and grow as a leader in healthcare.
