Community Guidelines

Disclaimer

We encourage your comments on Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s  various  social media channels and blogs, and hope you will join in discussions. Please note that we do not provide medical advice on our online communities, and information read, posted and shared online should not take the place of communication with a dedicated professional health care team. We review comments when they’re posted, and those that are off-topic or clearly promoting a commercial product will be hidden, deleted or marked as spam. Let’s partner in fostering a basic level of civility; disagreements are fine, but mutual respect must be maintained, and profanity or abusive language will not be tolerated.  Specific guidelines can be found in our detailed comment policy.

Please remember that when you post a comment online, it is viewable by the general public. For your own privacy and that of your family, please carefully consider how much detailed personal medical information linked to your name you want published on the Internet.

Social media “likes” and “shares” of links to websites, fan pages and events belonging to other people and organizations:

  • Do not constitute SCCA’s official or global endorsement of such people, organizations, gatherings or of any products, services or publications offered by such people and organizations,
  • Do not signify SCCA’s agreement with or support of all information, views and opinions expressed by these people and organizations, and
  • Do not reflect SCCA’s official views.

All comments on SCCA’s social media and blogs are strictly those belonging to the commenter and do not represent the viewpoints or opinions of SCCA. SCCA reserves the right to block, hide and/or ban comments, posts and individuals who violate these guidelines. By posting any comments, posts or other material through SCCA social media outlets, you give SCCA the irrevocable right to reproduce, distribute, publish, display, edit, modify, create derivative works from, and otherwise use your submission for any purpose in any form and on any media. You agree that you will indemnify SCCA against any damages, losses, liabilities, judgments, costs or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees and costs) arising out of a claim by a third party relating to any material you have posted.

SCCA’s social media and blogs are not designed to and do not provide medical advice, professional diagnosis, opinion, treatment or services to you or to any other individual.  Through this site and links to other sites, SCCA provides general information for advocacy and education purposes only.

SCCA’s social media accounts are monitored by SCCA staff 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding all holidays.

Social Media Guidelines/Comment Policy

SCCA is dedicated to providing people with a helpful and inclusive community. To that end, we encourage your comments through the social media outlets in which we participate. While we do our best, we can’t respond to every comment, particularly those that deal with individual medical cases and issues. We expect civility and mutual respect in the exchange of content. Profanity and abusive language are not acceptable and any posts containing such content will be removed immediately.

To ensure that all feel welcome to post and visit our social media channels and blog, the following types of comments, posts and shares to our channels are prohibited:

  • Material that is unlawful, defamatory, slanderous, indecent, obscene, pornographic, harassing, confidential, intimidating, threatening, or aggressive to any other person or entity as determined by SCCA in its sole discretion.
  • Posts advertisements or solicitations of business
  • Impersonate another person
  • Content that violates the rights of a person or entity including intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights
  • Content that discriminates based on race, creed, religion, gender, color, marital status, sexual orientation, level of income, or any other form of discrimination not listed

Any employee of SCCA commenting on a post by or directed to SCCA must disclose their status with SCCA when they submit a comment or a post.  Employees are prohibited from posting protected health information.

Information on safety, privacy and sharing

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is committed to providing a respectful, informative and engaging environment for our devoted social media communities, included but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and blogs.  We encourage everyone to comment and share opinions and stories in a courteous, respectful and appropriate manner.

Please note that information, stories, photos and videos posted by the public, SCCA patients and their friends and family on SCCA’s social media accounts are not “protected health information” and are not protected by U.S. health privacy laws.

Please be aware that content posted, shared and commented to our social media and blogs may be seen by thousands and, due to social media being a public forum, may be seen, shared and spread outside of SCCA’s pages and communities.
