Gabriel Jimenez Sanchez is a medical assistant / surgical tech in Procedures. He typically assists with placing ports, assisting with lumbar punctures and taking samples during gastrointestinal or pulmonary screenings. But in recent weeks, you could find him doing front-door screening, helping out on the loading dock and packaging and labeling hand sanitizer. “If I can get in there and help out anywhere, with anything, that’s what I’m going to do,” says Jimenez Sanchez.
Outsiders have questioned his willingness to go above and beyond his job description at a time like this. He’s got young kids at home. “People say, ‘You’re crazy for putting yourself out there. What if you take it home?” But Jimenez Sanchez couldn’t imagine behaving otherwise.
“I’m a natural giver,” he says. “I got into healthcare knowing that you never know what kind of patient you’re going to encounter. I’m here to help them get better. If I can change someone’s life and help them receive the care they need, I feel like I'm doing my part.”
