MRI at Valley Street provides MRI imaging for adult patients of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.

Magnetic resonance imaging A procedure in which radio waves and a powerful magnet linked to a computer are used to create detailed pictures of areas inside the body. These pictures can show the difference between normal and diseased tissue. MRI makes better images of organs and soft tissue than other scanning techniques, such as computed tomography (CT) or X-ray. MRI is especially useful for imaging the brain, the spine, the soft tissue of joints and the inside of bones.

Appointment information

The MRI at Valley Street provides MRI Imaging for adult patients of Fred Hutch. MRI scans may be scheduled at either MRI at Valley Street or at our South Lake Union Clinic. Please check your appointment details to make sure you go to the MRI location where your visit is scheduled.

Due to ongoing construction activity, patients are asked to travel by car between the South Lake Union Clinic and the MRI at Valley Street building whenever possible.

  • From the South Lake Union Clinic parking garage or circle driveway, turn left onto Aloha St. 
  • Travel 1.5 blocks down the hill on Aloha St.
  • Turn left onto Minor Ave. N.
  • Travel one block on Minor Ave. N.
  • Turn left onto Valley St. The MRI building will be on your right in half a block.
  • Patient parking is available at no charge next to the MRI at Valley Street building.

Directions from freeways

From I-5

  • Take exit 167, Mercer St./Seattle Center. (If you are northbound on I-5, you will exit I-5 from the far left lane. If you are southbound, you will exit I-5 from the far right lane.)
  • As you exit, move to the far right lane.
  • Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Fairview Ave. N.
  • Veer right at the light, staying on Fairview Ave. N. (Do not turn right onto Valley St.) Travel one block to Aloha St.
  • Turn right onto Aloha St.
  • Turn right onto Minor Ave. N.
  • Travel one block on Minor Ave. N
  • Turn left onto Valley St. The MRI building will be on your right in half a block.
  • Patient parking is available at no charge next to the MRI at Valley Street building.

From the east via SR 520

  • Take 520 west.
  • Exit onto I-5 south.
  • Follow the directions above from I-5.

From the east via I-90

  • Take I-90 west.
  • Exit onto I-5 north.
  • Follow the directions above from I-5.

Directions from UW Medical Center - Montlake
  • Head west on NE Pacific St. (This is the street that runs in front of UW Medical Center - Montlake, which is located at 1959 NE Pacific St.)
  • Turn right onto 15th Ave. NE.
  • Turn left onto NE Campus Pkwy.
  • Veer left on NE Campus Pkwy., pass through the tunnel, and cross the University Bridge. At this point, the street you are on becomes Eastlake Ave. E.
  • Follow Eastlake Ave. E. to Aloha St. (Do not bear right at Fairview Ave. N.)
  • Turn right onto Aloha St. 
  • Travel two blocks down the hill on Aloha St.
  • Turn left onto Minor Ave. N.
  • Travel one block on Minor Ave. N.
  • Turn left onto Valley St. The MRI building will be on your right in half a block.

Parking
  • Patients and their visitors may park at no charge in the outdoor parking lot next to the MRI at Valley Street building for the duration of their MRI appointment. 
  • Please park at 1209 Valley St. for MRI at Valley Street. Do not park in the South Lake Union Clinic garage.

Bike parking

A bike rack is provided near the front entrance of the MRI at Valley Street building. Remember to bring a lock to secure your bike.

Shuttle and transit
  • SCCA free shuttle: Our shuttle runs between the South Lake Union Clinic and UW Medical Center - Montlake, Seattle Children's, Pete Gross House and the South Lake Union House. 
  • Bus: The King County Metro bus route near the clinic is route 70. This bus stops on Fairview Avenue N. and runs between downtown Seattle and the University District. View alternative routes that may be convenient for you on Metro's website.
