Swim Across America, Inc. (SAA) is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events. SAA - Seattle is a volunteer-led event benefiting the innovative groundbreaking research taking place at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). SCCA is honored to be the beneficiary of such a powerful, passionate group of participants who are steadfast in their commitment to help ignite new clinical research to benefit patients and their families. The event draws hundreds of participants of all ages: swimmers, volunteers, Olympic medalists, and cancer survivors. One of these dedicated volunteers is David Day, a father who brought the Swim to Seattle in 2009.
To date, Swim Across America has contributed over $4.2 million for clinical research at SCCA. In past years, funds raised supported pancreatic cancer research and the SCCA Swim Across America Cellular Therapy Lab, which provides cell processing for immunotherapy and other types of cancer treatment for patients receiving transplantation at SCCA. Starting in 2019, funds raised from the event have gone to support breakthrough research by young investigators at SCCA. In 2019, six grants were awarded to researchers focused on: lymphoma, sarcoma, breast, pancreatic, and urological cancer research.
