US News & World Report Best Cancer HospitalOur environment and culture

When you join Fred Hutch, you join a world-class team.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Fred Hutch/University of Washington Medical Center among the top Best Hospitals in the Nation for Adult Cancer Treatment.

Following the merger of long-time partners, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the organization was renamed to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. We are an independent, nonprofit organization that also serves as UW Medicine's cancer program.

Fred Hutch has been a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center since 1973. Global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS, immunotherapy and COVID-19 helped Fred Hutch earn recognition as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and has network affiliations with hospitals in five states.

In our clinical setting, nurses, clinicians, researchers, and technicians in one area of expertise work directly with teams from other disciplines including care coordinators, nutritionists, and physical therapists to provide our patients with the best care possible. Our team approach yields better outcomes across the entire spectrum of cancers, as confirmed in a 2015 first-of-its-kind study commissioned by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We are also proud to be one of the few designated Centers of Excellence by the NIH.

Immunotherapy A type of therapy that uses substances to stimulate or suppress the immune system to help the body fight cancer, infection and other diseases. Stories of Fred Hutch
Stories of Fred Hutch

The COVID pandemic has challenged healthcare systems around the world and Fred Hutch was no different in having to deal with unprecedented difficulties. As in so many cases where healthcare workers had to rise to the challenge our staff went above and beyond to help ensure that our patients would continue to receive the best possible care. These are just a few of the stories of how our staff demonstrated the heroic efforts of healthcare workers everywhere.

Facilities

Our medical staff has access to the most modern laboratory equipment and imaging facilities available. With many of our doctors conducting research next door to our main clinic, it’s possible for research in our nurses’ and doctors’ labs to be implemented at our patients’ bedsides. Because our cross-disciplined teams can also design their own unique facilities, breakthroughs in the labs can be integrated into our clinic as efficiently as possible.

We are committed to cultivating a workplace in which diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected. We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity and VEVRAA Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, ancestry, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital or veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, political ideology, or membership in any other legally protected class.
