Amenities & Classes

Beauty and Cancer Program
The Beauty and Cancer Program offers ideas for personal care during cancer treatment and support from caring volunteers. Volunteers can assist SCCA patients with hats, turbans, wigs, and identifying community resources. To schedule an appointment with a Beauty and Cancer volunteer at SCCA or on floor 8-SE at the University of Washington Medical Center, call (206) 598-3604.

 

Cafe
The Red Brick Bistro offers everyday specials including fresh pasta and meat dishes; a variety of fruits, salads, sandwiches, and desserts; and an Espresso bar. Many food items are "patient friendly" and may be helpful for some restricted diets. The Red Brick Bistro is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Gift Shop
Located in the main lobby of SCCA, the Rain or Shine Gift Shop carries a variety of merchandise for patients and families. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Contact Rain or Shine at (206) 288-8270.

 

Guest Services
Located in the main lobby of SCCA. Provides information on the local community, diversionary activities, and volunteer assistance. Guest Service Volunteers can be reached at (206) 288-6701.


Patient and Family Resource Center

SCCA welcomes families to the third floor of the SCCA clinic building. Here you’ll find the Patient and Family Resource Center, which provides access to information on different types of cancers, treatment, support, and much more. Books, videos, computer workstations, and audiotapes are available as well as a community bulletin board showing current activities and support groups in the Seattle area.

 

Play Room
A waiting area designed for children ages 10 and under, located on the 5th floor of SCCA. Open Monday through Friday during clinic hours. For more information, call the Child Life Specialist at (206) 288-7621. Note: The Play Room is not supervised by SCCA staff.

 

Reception Desk
Located in the main lobby of SCCA, provides clinic information. The main desk can be reached at (206) 288-1000.

 

CLASSES

Food Safety during Cancer Treatment
Open to the public, this class is offered every Tuesday 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. in classroom 1006 and 1008 on the first floor of the SCCA clinic. Persons with decreased immune systems due to illness or cancer treatment are at increased risk of food-born illness. Guidelines for safe food handling, from grocery shopping to food preparation and storage are discussed. Safety hints for eating outside the home are also provided. Gentle Yoga
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance offers group and individual yoga classes. The gentle group class is especially for patients and their caregivers. It meets every Thursday from 12:30-1:30pm in Seattle Cancer Care Alliance room 3100.

 

Knit for Life Knitting Group
Sponsored by the UWMC Service League. Learn how to knit, or expand your knitting skills, and get to know other patients, caregivers, and wonderful volunteers. Knitting needles and yarn are provided. Classes meet every Tuesday, 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the main lobby of the SCCA clinic.

 

Nutrition Classes
SCCA nutritionists provide reliable and accurate food and nutrition advice to help optimize nutritional health and recovery during and after cancer treatment. Weekly classes are offered to help SCCA patients interpret scientific findings into easy-to-understand nutrition information. SCCA Shuttle Service
Open to the public, however, patients and families are given priority for seating. Service runs Monday through Friday, 6:35 a.m. to 7:35 p.m. Stop locations include: University of Washington Medical Center - RR Wing, Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Air Travel

The local airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, or SeaTac, about a half-hour drive from the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. A list of airlines and contact information is provided here.
