Cancer Prevention Clinic
SCCA's Cancer Prevention Clinic is for anyone who is interested in learning about their risk of getting cancer and the best ways to prevent it. Our services include those that have been proven to prevent cancer and/or detect it at its earliest, most curable, stage.
Every appointment starts with a comprehensive evaluation and ends with a personalized cancer-risk assessment and reduction program.
Our team of doctors, trained and certified in cancer prevention, work with other specialists, including nutritionists and physical therapists, to develop an individualized action plan to improve your chances of NOT getting cancer.
The Assessment
Your cancer-prevention assessment will include a medical history and a physical exam. If you have a history of cancer in your family, genetic counseling is available.
In-depth personal cancer risk-assessment screenings are available for all common cancers including same-day mammography for breast cancer, cervical cancer screening, and prostate cancer screening. Colon cancer screening is also scheduled in the same clinic at your convenience.
Lifestyle evaluation and risk-reduction services include smoking cessation, nutrition, and exercise counseling.
The Plan
Once your assessment is complete, you will take part in thorough, one-on-one education and counseling sessions to promote proven risk-reduction strategies that may include:
- A plan for ongoing screening tests, personalized to meet your particular needs.
- Behavior change support – individualized support provided by experts in the psychology of change to help you successfully adopt risk-lowering behaviors.
- Fitness counseling – an individualized evaluation is followed by personal counseling for exercise and activities aimed at cancer risk reduction.
- Nutrition counseling – an individualized evaluation is followed by personal counseling for diet modification aimed at cancer risk reduction.
- Research studies – opportunities to participate in research studies evaluating new medicines and supplements for preventing various cancers.
- Tobacco cessation counseling – individual counseling, medication therapy, and follow-up methods proven successful for patients who want to quit smoking.
