Housing

Short-Term

Extended Stay

Long-Term

If you are coming to Seattle from out of town to receive care at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, you will want to make your temporary housing arrangements as soon as you have an arrival date. You may find that the cost of housing is more expensive than you are accustomed to. However, we work with a number of housing providers of short and longer term housing to meet your needs.

Use the following links for information on some potential short-term, extended stay and long-term housing options. Note: When contacting one of the facilities, please identify yourself as an SCCA patient to qualify for medical discounted rates.

  • Pete Gross House
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Pete Gross House is a 69-unit apartment facility located less than one-half mile from the SCCA Clinic. These apartments have been specifically furnished and designed for the comfort of patients and families.
  • Short-Term Housing (one to two weeks)
  • Extended Stay Housing (two weeks to one month)
  • Long-Term Housing (stays exceeding one month)

We also offer a printable About Housing Options in Seattle (PDF) guide to help you decide what kind of housing you will need. In addition you may view the printable Housing List (PDF) which is regularly updated with new information on nearby Seattle facilities.

How Do I Choose?

Try narrowing your search by identifying the features most important to you. Think carefully about the amenities that will be most important to you and your family during your stay. For some people, a temporary dwelling needs only to have four walls and a door that locks. Others find that more comfortable surroundings have a positive impact on their healing process.

Size/Space: Studio? One bedroom? Two bedrooms? Consider how many people will be staying with you and for how long. Don't commit yourself to a monthly payment for a larger apartment than you need just to accommodate occasional visitors staying only a few days. Refer them to a nearby hotel.

Cost/Amenities: First, check with your insurance company to see if there is a travel and/or lodging benefit. Then consider the features of each property described on the list. Some include amenities that you might otherwise be paying for at another facility (i.e., complimentary breakfast, newspaper, housekeeping, exercise facility, etc.).

Location: If you don't have any resources for transportation, consider those properties that offer shuttle service. If you are planning to have your car with you, consider talking to us about the pros and cons of various neighborhoods.

Note: Patients undergoing marrow or stem-cell transplants are asked to live within a 20 to 30 minute drive (in heavy traffic) from the medical facilities.
