Patient Family Volunteers

Patient/Family Volunteers provide companionship and practical assistance for families and caregivers of SCCA patients who come from outside of western Washington and have no local support.

We make an effort to match a volunteer with a patient's family or caregivers based on similar interests, professions, spirituality, and cultural background. There are several bilingual volunteers who offer support to families who do not speak English.

A Patient/Family Volunteer can:

  • Meet you at the airport when you arrive in Seattle. Provide transportation to and from the airport for patients, primary caregivers, and donors.
  • Assist you with getting settled in your apartment. Provide transportation for grocery shopping once or twice a week.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support through visits to your apartment, hospital room, and social outings.
  • Answer your questions about Seattle and support services.
  • Provide weekly recreational activities for children and teens (e.g. go to parks, movies and Seattle attractions).

Volunteers would like to help make your stay in Seattle as comfortable as possible. However, please keep in mind that many volunteers work full-time and are unable to provide daily support. Volunteers spend an average of five hours per week providing social activities and practical assistance. Your volunteer's time commitment will depend on your needs and the availability of the volunteer.  To inquire about being matched up with a Patient/Family Volunteer, please email us at voluntee@seattlecca.org.
