How Can SCCA Volunteer Services Help Me?

We have caring and compassionate volunteers to help you during your treatment at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.  Please contact us if you have any questions or if you would like to utilize the support offered by Volunteer Services.  We can be reached Monday–Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm at (206) 288-1075 or by e-mail at voluntee@seattlecca.org.

Inpatient Volunteer Support for patients and families is available at the adult unit at UW Medical Center and the pediatric units at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center (CHRMC). At UWMC, services and programs such as the resource library, Living Well with Cancer series, the Beauty and Cancer program and specialized concierge service strive to assist you in many ways.  At CHRMC, Child Life volunteers provide valuable and comforting interaction with patients, and services throughout the hospital benefit the entire family.

Patient/Family Volunteers provide practical (shopping trips), social (sightseeing, outings), and emotional support to our patients and their families.  Patients and family members from outside of the western Washington area are matched with volunteers for the length of their treatment here in Seattle.  more>

Volunteer Drivers transport patients, donors, and caregivers who are from outside of the western Washington area to and from Seattle-Tacoma Airport and Boeing Field.  Please give three business days advanced notice as this service is dependent upon volunteer availability.  more>

Tour Guides offer tours of in-patient units at UW Medical Center and Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center, and tours of recommended housing options in the Lake Union, First Hill, and University areas for consultation patients and families.  more>

Child Life Volunteers offer diversionary activities, playgroups, and companionship for pediatric patients and patients’ family members (ages 0-18 yrs) in the 5th floor playroom of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance outpatient clinic.  Activities include crafts, games, storytelling, watching videos, and friendship.

Patient Events occur once a month at the Hutch School located in the Pete Gross House.  These events give patients and families an opportunity to take part in an activity with other patients and volunteers in a safe and inviting social setting.  Flyers for these patient events can be found in the Patient and Family Resource Center on the first floor of the SCCA.  Past events include bingo night, craft parties, movies, back to school dances, and holiday activities.
