Patient/Caregiver Education

Education is an integral part of treatment and services offered at SCCA. Informational, educational and support services are available to patients, family members, and caregivers. You have the right to information regarding your health status, disease, treatment options, the treatment process, managing and monitoring health status in the home setting, and maintaining health after treatment.

Overview of the Patient and Caregiver Education Program

The education program has five major components:

  • Individual teaching and consultations

Offered by our staff on topics such as care of symptoms, medications, and specific need that may arise during the treatment and recovery process.
  • Resource Center

The Patient and Family Resource Center is located on the first floor of the SCCA clinic and provides visitors access to health information and educational materials as well as online computer workstations. All services and materials in the Resource Center are free.
  • Educational classes/Lunch and Lecture Series

Classes help you to gain understanding about the treatment process, side effects, and skills needed for your recovery. (See Resource Center Monthly Calendar for more information.)
  • Support Groups

Offered as an opportunity for you to meet with other patients and families who are going through similar experiences
