Dr. Paul Carpenter: Down-under doc is here to stay
In 1995, Dr. Carpenter came to the United States from Sydney, Australia for a hematology fellowship program at the University of Washington, and he began working at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The success of his work at the Hutchinson Center motivated Dr. Carpenter to stay.

Dr. Mary Flowers: Dedication to patients long after transplantation makes a difference Dr. Flowers delights in seeing patients as they return for checkups and visits — some of them 20 years or more after their transplants. "I'm thrilled at seeing these people, knowing that they wouldn't be here without a transplant," said Dr. Flowers.

Dr. Leona Holmberg: Saving lives with bone marrow transplants
“I went to medical school just to do transplants,” Dr. Holmberg says. Curing cancer isn’t just about using more drugs, she says, “but it is a platform to build on.”

Dr. Rainer Storb: Too busy to retire
“The early times were exciting but primitive,” Dr. Storb says. “A few years ago, the first mini-transplants bowled us over with their success. Research is always exciting when it translates into better patient care.”

Dr. Robert P. Witherspoon: Innovative therapies provide hope
Science-minded since childhood, Dr. Witherspoon’s career has been driven by his drive to discover how science works with medicine.
