Northwest Tissue Center

Dr. Ernest Conrad III, director of SCCA's Sarcoma Service, helped found the Northwest Tissue Center, which provides the bone used in transplants for our sarcoma patients.

As a result of Dr. Conrad's involvement, SCCA has a close relationship with the Northwest Tissue Center, which is one of the largest accredited tissue banks in North America. It is a nonprofit organization under the umbrella of the Puget Sound Blood Center, and founded with the cooperation of the University of Washington Department of Orthopedics and Northwest Kidney Centers.

The program depends on the generosity of tissue donors and their families. Bone, tendons, skin grafts, and heart valves can significantly improve the quality of life for transplant recipients by preventing amputation, restoring mobility, relieving pain, and sometimes saving lives.

The Tissue Center is an accredited member of the American Association of Tissue Banks and is recognized nationally for its leadership in tissue banking.
