Cancer Prevention Services

The Assessment
Your cancer-prevention assessment will include a medical history and a physical exam. If you have a history of cancer in your family, genetic counseling is available.

In-depth personal cancer risk-assessment screenings are available for all common cancers including same-day mammography for breast cancer, cervical cancer screening, and prostate cancer screening. Colon cancer screening is also scheduled in the same clinic at your convenience.

Lifestyle evaluation and risk-reduction services include smoking cessation, nutrition, and exercise counseling.

The Plan
Once your assessment is complete, you will take part in thorough, one-on-one education and counseling sessions to promote proven risk-reduction strategies that may include:

  • A plan for ongoing screening tests, personalized to meet your particular needs.
  • Behavior change support – individualized support provided by experts in the psychology of change to help you successfully adopt risk-lowering behaviors.
  • Fitness counseling – an individualized evaluation is followed by personal counseling for exercise and activities aimed at cancer risk reduction.
  • Nutrition counseling – an individualized evaluation is followed by personal counseling for diet modification aimed at cancer risk reduction.
  • Research studies – opportunities to participate in research studies evaluating new medicines and supplements for preventing various cancers.
  • Tobacco cessation counseling – individual counseling, medication therapy, and follow-up methods proven successful for patients who want to quit smoking.
  • Referral to SCCA specialty prevention clinics for those at increased risk of lung, breast, ovarian, or gastrointestinal cancers.
