Tammy Bomkamp didn’t know about Seattle Cancer Care Alliance when she was diagnosed with cancer in October 2007. It was a coincidence that she heard about SCCA during her treatment elsewhere. She eventually found a doctor at SCCA to guide her through complementary care.
“I came here and was really impressed,” Tammy says. “After a skin-sparing bi-lateral mastectomy and a very negative experience where I received my initial care, SCCA was an amazing experience.”
Tammy had been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ at age 44 and found out six months later that what she really had was ductal carcinoma with micro invasion. She had lymph nodes removed at that time and she decided she needed to know more about what was going on in her body.
“My doctor prescribed Tamoxifen, but to be sure, I wanted a second opinion from SCCA,” Tammy says. “Ultimately, I decided not to take it and made lifestyle changes instead and began seeing a nutritionist.”
Tammy came to the Women’s Wellness Clinic after her treatment was complete in April 2008. “I moved all my care to SCCA – annual paps, exams, transvaginal ultrasounds, dexa scans… the works,” she says. “I see Heidi Trott in between for breast follow-ups and blood tests.”
I was so impressed with the facility and everyone at SCCA compared to any other facility I’ve been to,” Tammy says. “The doctors and ARNPs are so helpful and stay current on all the latest findings.”
Tammy lives in Gig Harbor and says it’s worth the drive to get to SCCA for her regular visits.
“I do everything I can to be healthy – eat organic, plant-based food to maintain control, and avoid stress and anxiety. I never want to hear those words again.”
