SEATTLE – Three community hospitals in Washington and Montana that are members of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Network are among the first sites qualified by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network to join the NCCN’s new Affiliate Research Project. The hospitals chosen to join the project are:
- Bozeman Deaconess Hospital and Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center in Bozeman, Mont., under the direction of principal investigator Jack Hensold, M.D.
- MultiCare Health System and Multicare Regional Cancer Center in Tacoma, Wash., under the direction of principal investigator John A. Keech Jr., D.O., F.A.C.O.I.
- Wenatchee Valley Medical Center and Wenatchee Valley Cancer Treatment Center in Wenatchee, Wash., under the direction of principal investigator Mitchell Garrison, M.D.
The hospitals were chosen because of their affiliation with SCCA, the strength of their existing clinical research experience and infrastructure, and their institutional commitment to offering clinical trials to their patients.
Affiliate sites will have access to new and innovative cancer drugs for their patients in collaboration with NCCN member institutions, and principal investigators of NCCN-funded studies will have access to NCCN-qualified community sites.
The mission of the NCCN Affiliate Research Project is to improve cancer patient outcomes and to advance medical science through clinical research conducted by the NCCN, its 21 member institutions – of which SCCA is one – and member institutions of communitybased affiliate networks.
The NCCN plans to approve a minimum of three additional sites this year to potentially support more than 50 actively enrolling cancer clinical trials through the NCCN Oncology Research Program.
