Katherine Nguyen, MD
Dr. Katherine Nguyen is excited that oncology is one of the few fields in medicine that is expanding by leaps and bounds. As a result, we can often quickly apply these new advances in treatment to patient care.
Dr. Nguyen received her medical degree from UCLA and chose to be an oncologist because of a strong interest in science that started in college. Later on she realized, oncology was a natural blend of science and a desire to work with people. She completed her internship, residency, and hematology-oncology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
“I approach my relationship with my patient as a partnership.” she says. “One of the most important things I can offer my patient is education of their illness. I believe the patient who has an understanding of their illness is better able to cope and to participate in their medical decision making."
“My goal is to provide the best possible care, individualized for each patient’s needs and wishes.” says Dr. Nguyen, board-certified in oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. “In many cases, the care and treatment of patients requires expertise from many specialists. I see it as a team approach and regularly collaborate with colleagues from many fields.”
Treatment is just one part of Dr. Nguyen’s relationship with her patients. “Surveillance and prevention of disease are other important components in keeping our patients healthy.”
When Dr. Nguyen is not working in her practice, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children outdoors and as well as photography, and creative cooking.
