Dr. Bruce L. Dalkin Joins the Prostate Cancer Team at SCCA

Seattle, Dec. 15, 2008. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance welcomes Bruce L. Dalkin MD to SCCA's Prostate Cancer program. Dr. Dalkin has over 20 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and has performed over 1,300 radical prostatectomies during his career. In addition to treating patients for prostate cancer, Dr. Dalkin will be focusing on health-related quality-of-life outcomes research at UW Medical Center and SCCA.

Dalkin comes to Seattle after serving as a urologic oncologist at the University of Arizona for 12 years, and as director of Urologic Oncology at the Arizona Cancer Center for seven years. He also worked in private practice in Tucson for six years prior to returning to academic medicine at the University of Washington.

"One of the deficiencies in treating cancer is that we haven't done a good job in assessing how well our treatments work," says Dalkin. "That's essentially what I've been doing for eight years with my surgical patients in Arizona. I came to Seattle with an opportunity to expand on my outcomes project by incorporating more urologists here at SCCA and throughout the Pacific Northwest and by adding the outcomes of radiation therapy to surgical results as well. This would be the first outcomes study of its kind and serve as a basis for all physicians to accurately determine their own results in prostate cancer care and appropriately inform patients prior to their treatments."

With the addition of Dalkin, SCCA now has a staff of 11 medical oncologists who treat prostate cancer. Learn more about Dr. Dalkin's outcomes reseach and visit PubMed for a full listing of his journal articles.
