Gunnar Bjarni Ragnarsson, MD, MSc

Dr. Gunnar Ragnarsson chose medicine as a career to help other people. He specializes in Immune therapy of hematologic cancers. "It is my belief that by employing the strength of the immune system to treat and prevent cancer, it may be possible to eradicate cancer as a cause of human suffering," he says.

In the future, Dr. Ragnarsson hopes to see more targeted and better tolerated therapies for cancer patients. He leads a clinical trial in immunotherapy for leukemia. "We take immune cells from healthy donors and turn them into cancer killing cells," he says.

When he isn't caring for patients or conducting research, Dr. Ragnarsson enjoys time with family and friends.

Patient Care Philosophy:

A journey starts when a patient is diagnosed with cancer. In this journey the patient needs to decide what is the best treatment, where to be treated and then undergo therapy that may at times be difficult. My goal is to help the patient make those decisions, support them during therapy, and ensure that the patient experiences the highest possible quality of life.
