Overview
Parathyroid cancer occurs in one of the four tiny parathyroid glands found behind and attached to the thyroid. This cancer is extremely rare—fewer than 100 cases are reported each year in the United States. The parathyroid glands regulate the body’s calcium levels, so excess growth or tumors affect the level of calcium in the blood.
