Ovarian Cancer

Overview

If you have ovarian cancer, your best hope for a cure is to be treated by a gynecologic oncologist, right from the beginning because research has shown that women with ovarian cancer who are treated by gynecologic oncologists first have better outcomes on average. Gynecologic oncologists are doctors who have years of specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the female reproductive system.

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance has five UW Medicine gynecologic oncologists, more than any other medical center or clinic in the five-state region. In addition, we have a radiation oncologist who is a specialist in treating gynecologic cancers, and a dedicated gynecologic cancer pathologist, a doctor whose job is to diagnose and analyze only these cancers.

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance was formed, in part, to bring promising new treatments to patients faster. For people with ovarian cancer, this means more treatment options at SCCA than might be found elsewhere, including participating in one of many clinical research studies conducted at SCCA and its parent organizations, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and UW Medicine.
