Liver Transplantation

You might be able to receive a liver transplant if your cancer is only in your liver but you are not eligible for partial hepatectomy because of the location of the tumor or because your liver is too damaged to regenerate and take over if the cancerous part is surgically removed.

Transplants for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients are done at University of Washington Medical Center, which has a special Liver Transplant Clinic that collaborates closely with the Liver Tumor Clinic. Transplant specialists participate in every Liver Tumor Clinic to help evaluate whether a liver transplant might be right for you. Patients who are waiting for a liver transplant may have other treatments, such as radiofrequency ablation or embolization.
