Treatment Options

Children with congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia receive platelet transfusions as the mainstay of their therapy when the patient is experiencing bleeding symptoms. These patients should avoid taking aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Cytokine therapy has been studied in clinical trials, but currently,  bone marrow transplantation is the only curative treatment.
