Evaluation and management of seizures in the patient with cancer
(547kb)
Seizures are common in patients with central nervous system cancers. There are many reasons for seizures in patients with central nervous system cancers, such as irritation by the brain cancer on surrounding normal brain tissue, metabolic problems such as low blood sugar, low blood sodium, low oxygen levels, and treatment-related causes of seizures. Seizures can be treated with medications called anticonvulsants. Monitoring of the blood level with these medications is important. |
